Chill Under the Stars: The Ultimate Guide to Sleeping in a Zero-Gravity Chair

Lots of you have enjoyed our zero-gravity chairs around campfires, barbecues, or just out in the garden after a long day at work. But have you ever wondered what it would be like to spend a whole night sleeping in a zero-gravity chair?

Is it comfortable? Is it safe? Is it time to permanently move the recliner into the bedroom? This is our definitive guide to the benefits (and potential drawbacks) of zero-gravity sleep.

How Does the Zero-Gravity Chair Work?

It works bycreating a sense of weightlessness that you’ll certainly recognize if you’ve ever seemed to float while jumping on a trampoline or enjoying a ride in an amusement park.

Is Sleeping in a Zero-Gravity Chair Good for You?

This depends on what you mean by “sleep” (more on that in the next section). But if you ever do find yourself drifting off in one of our zero-gravity chairs, here are some benefits to keep in mind.

Zero-Gravity Sleep Relieves Pressure on Your Back and Joints

By removing gravity from your body, your bones and joints can relax and expand, allowing your spine, knees, hips, shoulders, and neck to decompress.

It Improves Circulation and Recovery

Because zero-gravity chairs elevate your legs, they improve circulation from your lower limbs to the heart, reducing the swelling and discomfort that can come from exercise or a sedentary lifestyle.

It Helps Your Body Fully Relax Before Sleep

With your back stretched, your joints free, your muscles relaxed, and your swelling reduced, you’re in the perfect state to enter deep, restful sleep.

But remember, all this applies to the time before you sleep. What about sleep itself?

Is Zero-Gravity Sleep Suitable for Daily Use?

You can safely take daily naps in our zero-gravity chairs. A full night’s sleep in a zero-gravity chair is also possible on a temporary basis if you have a health condition that makes lying flat on your back uncomfortable.

But there are precautions you must take before you ditch your bed completely.

Is it Good to Sleep in a Zero-Gravity Chair All Night?

There’s sleep, and then there’s sleep, and it’s the second one you need to start your day mentally and physically fresh. Let’s look at a few definitions so you see what we mean.

Occasional Naps vs Overnight Sleep

Naps are the shorter, lighter versions of sleep that we take during the day. A good nap for 10 to 20 minutes between 1 and 3 pm can improve your mood and productivity through the afternoon and evening.

Proper sleep is a longer, deeper restorative process that happens at night. It is vital for tissue repair and your immune system, and requires a dark, cool, quiet environment.

Who Should Avoid Sleeping in a Zero-Gravity Chair?

The weightlessness of sleep in a zero-gravity chair can alleviate low back pain in pregnancy. Elevating your legs can improve blood circulation, and a more upright position can help with breathing disorders like sleep apnea.

But remember that a zero-gravity chair is not a medical device, and it should not be used to treat any medical condition. If you are pregnant or if you have back, breathing, or circulation problems, consult a doctor before sleeping in a zero-gravity chair.

Also, remember that a zero-gravity chair is not for those who like to sleep on their front or side.

How to Sleep Comfortably in a Zero-Gravity Chair Outdoors

If all this talk of sleep has you hankering after a nap, now you know all the benefits of sleeping in a zero-gravity chair. But what set-up do you need for outdoors sleep in a zero-gravity chair?

Finding the Ideal Set-up for Sleeping Under the Stars

There’s no better way to finish a barbecue or a garden party than to kick your chair back and drift off to the sound of stories, music, and laughter.

But as the stars come out, be sure to have plenty of warm blankets or a good sleeping bag ready, even a summer’s night can become cool late at night and early in the morning. Also, if you have a sleep mask make sure to have it with you. The sun rises early in. Unless you plan on a very early start to your day, block out those first rays to get a proper night’s sleep.
